Hello again,
If you have had any experience in public relations or marketing, you probably know how well press releases can work. There are many, many companies who have increased sales by 100%-300% in a matter of months simply through using press releases. Imagine what this could do for your business?
Writing press release has become a prominent way to drive targeted web site traffic. In fact, if you are not writing press release you are missing the best way to boost targeted traffic to your website.
Before the modern world of online publication, nobody saw the actual press release except for a handful of reporters and editors. The Web has transformed the rules. You now have the opportunity to write effective press releases that are directed to the people who are interested in what you have to offer.
In this lesson, we’re going to discuss and hopefully start using an online press release to produce traffic and generate leads. Press releases are a great way to generate free traffic and in some cases for very little cash. I like to call it “traffic for pennies”. The best part about this form of online marketing is that it’s easy to do and you will reap the rewards from doing work once for several months to come.
So, what is a press release?
A press release is a public announcement to the news media about a specific event with your business or organization. It can be the introduction of a new product or service or the explanation of an existing one, an upcoming seminar, a new partnership or a new website. The list is endless and the only limitation is your imagination.
A press release is usually a couple of paragraphs, up to 2 pages in length containing a link to your website at the bottom of the page. It’s made up of different sections starting with a headline, for example “ACN Canada Teams up With Google” (that’s true by the way). The headline is followed by the summary and then the actual content or body. At the end of the press release is your call to action. This section contains your contact information and a link to your landing page or website.
Let’s look at this in more detail.
Step 1:
The first thing you need to do is decide on a headline. The goal of your headline is to grab the reader’s attention. It needs to be sharp, to the point and eye catching. Capitalize Every Word Except for Prepositions. Ideally the headline should not be more than 170 characters and it doesn't end with a period.
It needs to contain the primary keywords that are relevant to your business. We want the press release to be indexed by Google and other search engines.
Step 2:
Create your summary. The summary paragraph is a synopsis of the press release in regular sentence form. Editors from submission services like PRWeb may read the summary to see if the press release is worth reading. Make it interesting!
Step 3:
Now it’s time to write the body of your press release. The body can be anywhere from a couple of paragraphs to 1 or 2 pages in length. The first paragraph known as the "lead" contains the most important information. You need to remember that in a press release, keep sentences and paragraphs short, about three or four lines per paragraph. The first couple of paragraphs should cover the who, what, when, where, why and how questions.
Try your best to avoid writing a press release that sounds like a blatant sales pitch. Most submission services won’t tolerate it and in my opinion, they are correct. Your goal is to provide enough information to entice people to visit your web site.
Step 4:
Creating your call to action.
At the end of the press release, include a short paragraph that describes your organization, contact information and a call to action. This can be a link to your landing page or web site where the reader can acquire more information.
Step 5:
Submitting your release.
Now that you have your press release written, it’s time to submit your work to various submissions services. The following are a few press release services. Keep in mind that some are free and some aren’t. There are press release services that are 100% free, but have paying options as well. I would experiment with both.
Have fun writing…
